I am not a fan of noodles. The noodles I do like are cooked, fried and drowned within a sauce of my choice (lately sticky plum sauce).
In China food seems much healthier, so my girlfriend and many like her, ate noodle soup. It's boiled water with a hint of chicken and a lot of long noodles. She loved it. I of course tried it too, but couldn't get the hang of it. First of all the slurping is not something commonly accepted in Holland, so I tried to eat it as polite and silently as I could. Now I know there is reason for slurping 'cause it keeps your clothes a lot cleaner then doing it the way I did. So I've become a slurpee too. But the taste still seem pretty bland to me. I keep missing the sauce.
My girlfriend is Chinese and I want to adapt to her lifestyle too, so yesterday I brought some instant noodles to work. You just pour some hot water on the noodles, add powdered flavor and some instant veggies and within two minutes you have the noodles. I am still not crazy about it, but I am getting the hang of it. It was actually not that bad after all. I just hope I get used to noodles before my next meeting in China.

Hi Muffles,

You sure are a sweet man to try so hard to please your girlfriend to the extent of changing your diet and slurping noodles. In time the bland seasoning will not be bland as you will become accustomed and then it will taste good. Of course you can always add some spices or hot seasoning to the juice to perk up the flavor. Myself I love hot and spicy food as in Eastern cuisine from India -- curries nice and HOT. I also love latin food from Mexico, Central America, and Spain (paellas).

Maybe you could introduce your girlfriend to international cuisines and she might like it and then learn to make it for you.

In the meantime keep slurping and keep your shirt clean.

Take care,
OceanSong
